Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Manual Breastpump Review & Giveaway

Today, my lovely friend Jax from Making It Up has volunteered to review the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Manual Breastpump for us. Jax is a fellow breastfeeder with plenty of experience of pumps and expressing, so I’m happy to take her word for it! She writes partly about life home educating two children and…

News Of The Week: Everyday Chemicals May Be Harming Kids

If I had a £1 for every time I had said to people ‘just because there’s a smiling baby on the cover doesn’t mean it’s good for your baby’, well, I’d have a lot more money in my wallet. So I was absolutely thrilled this week to find a CNN article confirming what I have…

Breast Milk Production: How Is Breast Milk Made?

I have been breastfeeding for a little over thirteen months now, and it recently dawned on me that I kind of just ‘trust’ the process to work, and have no idea how breast milk is made. This is a rather unnatural situation for me, as I always want to know the ins and outs of…

365-298 to 365-304 A Week In Pictures

Finishing up our week at Dhikololo and heading in to a peaceful week at home. Our days are so varied, but sometimes all on the same theme. My sister arrived this week and is now sharing the house we lived in years ago again. Ameli adores having her aunty around.

What Do You Mean ‘Natural Parenting’?

I have often told people these two things: Before I had Ameli, what I knew about children could be written on the back of a match box, with room left for a stamp. I didn’t choose many of the ways we’ve decided to raise Ameli – she chose them.

Kids IQ Books Review and Giveaway

Ameli loves books. She will sit down and read a book (i.e. look at the pictures), up side down, right way round, wrong way round, she doesn’t mind. I have a large array of books for her, and although she’s had her own library card since she was three months we still love buying books. …

News Of The Week: A Four Year Old Can Be Sued

Surfing through my Google reader tonight, a headline from last week’s New York Times caught my eye. It read: 4-Year-Old Can Be Sued, Judge Rules in Bike Case. Well, I don’t know where to start on this one.

Dear Ameli- Letter To A Thirteen Month Old

Dearest little girl, Yes, that’s you. No longer a baby, but a full blown toddler, walking, (sort of) talking, toddler. My beautiful little girl. I don’t even know where to start. Our life hasn’t exactly been normal since your arrival, has it? We’ve not had the ‘normal’ first year with baby.

365-291 to 365-297 A Week in Pictures

We have been exceptionally blessed this year with trips away and awesome adventures. This week was a perfect example of that as we went from the green winelands and coastal area of Gordon’s Bay in the Cape to the dry, hot bushveld. We had a fab time with my two grandmothers for the first half…

Rebirthing: For Emotional Healing And Breastfeeding Reintroduction

A few days ago I heard about something I don’t believe I’ve ever heard of before: Rebirthing. @mamapeardesigns was asking questions about it on twitter, and I was immediately intrigued, so I started reading more about it. There isn’t a huge amount of information, sadly, and I’d love to know if anyone has experience of…

A few days ago I heard about something I don’t believe I’ve ever heard of before: Rebirthing. @mamapeardesigns was asking questions about it on twitter, and I was immediately intrigued, so I started reading more about it. There isn’t a huge amount of information, sadly, and I’d love to know if anyone has experience of it, but I thought I’d share what I found anyway, in the hope that it might help someone. (Please note that Rebirthing is a name applied to a form of breathing yoga and also to the questionable practice of wrapping a person in a blanket to create a womb like experience and requiring them to fight their way out  - otherwise known as Attachment Therapy. This is neither of those techniques)
