Friday Features: ‘Fine And Fair’ And ‘The Hippie Housewife’

Parenting is a ride where everything changes all the time. No sooner have you figured out something, possibly even mastered it when WHAM! In your face: it changes. That’s happened to me a lot this year as Ameli has gone from baby to toddler to two. I have made a stand against the whole concept…

Pic Of The Week – Week 49 – Getting Festive

Ooooh…. We’re getting festive here! I blame all the end of year Christmas parties, and use the term blame very loosely.

Choice And Consequence In Conscious Mindfulness

If there was a soundtrack to my life, the last week or so would have a ghostly echo pounding through a driving bass line. The ghostly echo would say one word, over and over again: “Mindful, mindful, mindful”. My mother will tell you I’ve always believed that we have the ability in ourselves to change…

The Little Green Sheep is a lovely organic baby products company who currently have gorgeous Christmas Stockings available. Pregnancy Friendly Alternative To Mulled Wine : Russian Tea

I adore Mulled Wine (Gluhwein). There’s nothing like the aroma of spiced red wine, cinnamon and cloves lingering over the house, but it’s been a few years since I’ve been able to indulge now, what with breastfeeding and pregnancy. I’ve tried a number of different alternatives for Christmas and winter flavours, but so far this…

How To: Send A Hug In An Envelope

It’s my sister’s 30th birthday today, and while I’ve been doing my best to not think about it, since thinking about it causes me physical pain in my chest, I did have a moment a few weeks ago where I did something to prepare for it: We made a hug in an envelope.

Friday Features: ‘African Babies Don’t Cry’ And ‘Parenting God’s Children’

Today’s bloggers in the spotlight are ladies who stir something within me. Reading their blogs is sometimes painful as it triggers a memory, something I prefer to keep shut away, so that I don’t have to remember, and with remembering, feel loss, or loneliness, or worse: longing.  They might not inspire the same emotions in…

Pregnancy Week 29 -Things Are Getting Serious

Dear Squidgy, This is it. The final week of pregnancy that starts with a 2. From here on out, if I recall, things begin to move really very fast and before we know it, you’ll be in my arms. To be honest, I’m a little afraid. It’s not you. It’s us, this life, our lives.…

Dear Squidgy,

This is it. The final week of pregnancy that starts with a 2. From here on out, if I recall, things begin to move really very fast and before we know it, you’ll be in my arms.

To be honest, I’m a little afraid. It’s not you. It’s us, this life, our lives. I’ve been a mother now for 26 months. You’d think I’d have a better handle on it all by now, but I really don’t. And no sooner do I celebrate a victory, confident in having figured something out than the whole game changes and WHAM! Just like that. I’m back to knowing nothing, feeling uncertain, unsure, insecure. (more…)
