I don’t normally run commentary on news stories, but the story in the Manchester Evening News today really got me (and a lot of other people) a little bit riled up.

I often think of salmon, swimming upstream. I think of how hard it must be to swim against the current all the time. How tiring. I guess if it were one single fishy, swimming up river, it would be an impossible task, but for a school of them, swimming together, fighting the current as one, the tired riding in the slipstream of the strong, it’s a different story.
I never intended to be an activist on anything, least of all things relating to children.

We’ve had a decidedly uneventful week here. Apart from one or two good moments. Not sure what’s going round. Guess we are just waiting for spring.
Reclaiming Birth Rally – London 7 March 2010
On Sunday 7 March hundreds of men, women and children marched from the Elephant and Castle area of London to Whitehall to deliver a petition to the Department of Health and letters to the Prime Minister.
Speakers from the National Childbirth Trust, The Royal College of Midwifery, Independent Midwives UK, Association for Improvement in the Maternity Services, and the Albany Midwifery practice spoke in support of maternity services like the Albany across the UK.
