Natural Recipes – Breast Milk Enhancement Tea

  • Posted on June 27, 2010 at 10:50 pm

It always saddens me so much when someone says that they had to quit breastfeeding at six weeks because their milk dried up. It also maddens me, because I think health care professionals should explain to people how it all works.  For the first six weeks your milk reservoirs, so that you  have a constant supply – then it ‘dries up’ but it doesn’t really dry up, it just becomes available on demand and might not respond well to expressing either! know it’s frightening, it was to me too, but this concoction of herbs really helped improve my flow and I was able to go on. Armed with this knowledge, I’m almost certain more people would be able to feed for longer.

Dealing with Teething Naturally

  • Posted on May 3, 2010 at 5:58 pm

Teething. In this house, it is as bad as you can imagine. My daughter, Kyra, started teething at about 8 weeks and the first tooth popped out at 19 weeks followed shortly by the second three days later. Since then we’ve had two months of welcome relief from the teething monster, but this week it has descended on us like a misty fog all over again.

Calpol – What Every Parent Should Know

  • Posted on April 20, 2010 at 8:30 am

I can safely say I have a hate-hate relationship with Calpol. It works like this: I hate it… and on the other hand I hate it. I have no objections to paracetamol on its own, even though I rarely use medicine, and I absolutely agree that it should have its place on our shelves, as it does serve a valuable purpose. However, in my opinion Calpol does not, and shouldn’t be on the shelves at all.

Said the Bitch to the Cow

As a species, women are quite hard to understand. There, I said it.

We fill the complete spectrum with our differences, yet at our basic core, we are not all that dissimilar. We all have basic needs of love, acceptance, belonging and so on.

Why, then, do we bash each other, berate each other’s viewpoints and pile on guilt where extra isn’t needed?

Herbs for use in Childbirth

  • Posted on February 16, 2010 at 10:09 pm

An important part in my series on natural childbirth is of course the actual birth. Perhaps it’s prudent to start by defining natural childbirth. To me, natural excludes any substance that will pass through the placenta and affect the baby or inhibit your experience of actually vaginally giving birth.

Preparing for a natural childbirth

Pregnancy is a time of such huge change. Your emotions change, your body, your home. It all changes. And just as an athlete practices for an event, a dancer for a show, or a politician for a debate, so a woman needs to prepare for becoming a mother. She needs to prepare not only her mind, her heart and her soul, but her body too.

Of Legs and Teeth

Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a big fan of the medicalised culture we live in. I avoid doctors and medicine as much as I can. You’ll find it funny then that in the last three weeks I have taken pain killers, been admitted to Accident and Emergency, had a root canal, four courses of antibiotics and minor surgery!

It all started with the pregnancy.

Resolutions – One Week On

I think one week in to the new year is a good time to stop and take a look at where you are with those new years resolutions.

Can you say growth spurt?

I am afflicted by a London-based curse. Well, for me it is London based. I develop tonsilitis and bronchitis every year. The first time it happened was our first year in London, December 2004, just in time for our wedding. I kind of croaked my ‘I do’s’ through a drug induced, fevered hue.
