Cry It Out and Sleep Training

  • Posted on August 31, 2010 at 8:00 am

I am a member of the ‘cry-it-out’ generation. When my daughter, Kyra, was just a few days old, my mother suggested we leave her to cry for twenty minutes and she would sleep better. If she was still crying after twenty minutes, we could go in comfort her, and then start again. I sat in the next room crying as I heard my newborn crying. We did it twice, and I vowed never again.

Dear Kyra                                                                                                                                 4 March 2010

I can’t believe how quickly this month has flown by, nor can I believe that five months ago this minute, I was opening my eyes from my first decent sleep in days.

You have grown in leaps and bounds this month. You seem in such a hurry. It has been beautiful to observe. It has been magical to be a part of. We are so blessed to have you as our baby.

Look at Kyra. She wasn‘t eating well or sleeping well.  Phew. Was that a false reality. On a scale of 1 to 10 of horrible times, I thought it was a 7. In light of the last few days, I’m regrading then down to a three!

A Bad Day’s Mothering

I know everyone has them. Those days where you just feel like nothing youre doing is right. When you suspect, in the back of your frazzled mind, that you might be ruining your poor, sweet, crying child, for ever.

Teething Time?

We’ve had what is officially the worst night of Kyra’s life. In fact, we’re still in the middle of it.
