Have you read the book or seen the movie or stage show Caldender Girls? A group of middle aged country ladies get naked in aid of their WA group and receive international recognition for their (brave) efforts. Well, when I watched the movie, I never thought I’d end up with my boobs out in a calender. I just wasn’t raised that way. But, when it’s for charity, its different, right?

A few weeks ago, fellow breastfeeding activist, Lactivist, asked for people interested in doing a breastfeeding photoshoot to contact her. Always willing to help, I sent in my details and didn’t think about it again.  About two weeks later I was at a Green Parent meetup at a friend’s house when one of the ladies, Rachael Black, was talking about her new project, Boobs for Babes, Tits for Tots. It was as if it were meant to be.

So Ameli and I will be having our photos taken for the breastfeeding calender and I have asked Rachael to tell us a little more about the inspiration behind the project and how you can help spread the breastfeeding word.

boobs for babes, tits for totsWhat is Boobs for Babes, Tits for Tots and why are you doing it?

I started the campaign to promote breastfeeding to those who would otherwise lack the support to breastfeed or not even try it due to societal constraints or misinformation. I love breastfeeding my 13 month old daughter and don’t intend to stop, it’s the best thing you can do for your kids, so it should be celebrated.

What made you come up with the idea?

My mate Claire and I were mucking about on facebook, bantering about the profile pic of my boobies and we came up with the idea of a calendar there. It kind of spiralled from that point and I am now producing one of my own for a good cause!

What do you hope to achieve with the calender and where do the proceeds go?

I hope to achieve a good level of media awareness and a bit of hype if I can manage it! I also want to make at least £10,000 for various breastfeeding cafes, helplines and support networks that need the funding. Also, I want to give money to women who want to train as Lactation Consultants or Breastfeeding Counsellors but can’t afford to.

If anyone would like to help in any way, what can they do?

Help would be very much appreciated! You can donate money directly via the website, you can sell calendars or you can promote the cause on your blog, webpages, NCT and other child/parent groups or tweet about it – whatever you can think of to raise the profile.

Where can we buy the calenders?

Calendars will be available from our website, for £10 and the lovely ladies on facebook will be promoting them to family and friends, anyone can sell them on blogs, websites, at home, at baby and parent groups and so on,  just email me at mail@boobsforbabes.com to order a batch to sell.

Do you have any other projects in mind after this one?

Yes, a full night’s sleep! No, nothing concrete yet but I had such a great response from abroad, I’d like to arrange an international mamas photo-shoot somehow and make a multi national calendar. I’ll let you know when I have worked out the logistics!

Do you have any questions for Rachael? If you have any suggestions or thoughts on advertising the calender, please do share!

Boobs for Babes, Tits for Tots – The Breastfeeding Calender

  1. Great idea – please get in touch! I will promote on my blog for you, or if you would like to do a guest post about it, please let me know. I breastfed my little boy for two years and so am very willing to support.

  2. Oh fun! I just participated in a “nursing in public” calendar to promote breastfeeding awareness in our state. So exciting to think we might help someone else breastfeed their babes!
