If you follow on Facebook or Twitter, this is going to be old news to you now, but Squidgy is here!! And she’s a girl! What a surprise!! I was really expecting a boy, for some reason!

She was born yesterday, 13 March at 17:23 – that’s 5:23 PM for my American friends – weighing in at an astonishing 4.2 kg, or 9lb6oz. We made them weigh her again, because I didn’t believe that could be right. My bump was so small compared to with Ameli.

Full birth story to follow, but we’re very excited, happy and ecstatic to have had our home water birth, despite being at 42 weeks and 5 days according to the scan dates!

Thank you everyone for your support…

  4. Massive congratulations! And a home birth that overdue! Wish my midwives would allow that!

Thanks Josie. To be honest, mine didn’t ‘allow’ it either, but because I knew my dates 100% and knew I couldn’t have conceived when the scan says I did – with the exception of an immaculate conception! – I knew I wasn’t really overdue, despite what the scan said. I told them I’d be having a homebirth with or without their presence, and they said that in truth midwives have a duty of care to the mothers and if I didn’t want to go to hospital, they couldn’t force me, they could only make note of the fact that I was going against their advice, which was fine by me, because I knew my dates without a doubt.

Sooo beautiful! I love Ameli’s smile — very like Mikko’s upon meeting his brother. I am so happy for you that you were able to have your water birth. Enjoy your babymoon! Give that baby a squeeze for me. :)

  8. How exciting! I was expecting that you would have a boy, as well. There’s nothing sweeter than a sister relationship, though. Take care!!
